Enzio, mountaineering is something of my own nature

immagine

A life characterized by mountain, lived with unaffected and sincere passion. Michele Enzio, mountaineering from the Valsesia, is deeply attached to his mountains. After several expeditions abroad, among which those in Ecuador and New Zeeland, now he goes back to Himalaya to brave the Everest strictly without oxygen.

He is born in Varallo Sesia, in the province of Vercelli, on June 12, 1974, but today he lives in Alagna Valsesia. Son of an Alpine Guide, Michele Enzio has followed his father’s profession, also associating to mountaineering the title of ski instructor.

He discovered his passion for high elevation since very young, on mountains’ home. From 14 years old on he has began to train: Mount Rosa and the Alps have been his gym.

His early expedition date back on 1997, when he has descended with skis both Canale Sesia and Canalone Marinelli. Then, after gaining much experience, he has started to think of other counties’ peaks.

In 1998 he has been in Ecuador and made his first descent by paragliding from Chimborazo, 6,300 metres high. Before going back to home, he has summitted Cotopaxi, a volcano on the Ecuadorian Andes which reaches the altitude of 5,897 metres.

In the same year, he has then descended with skis for the second time the South side of Colle Ippolita, 4,283 metres, in the hearth of the Mount Rosa massif.

A year later, again on the Alps, it has been the time of the North face of Lyskamm, descended with skis as well. Then he has gone to Borneo in Malaysia, where has summitted Mount Kinabalù, 4,100 metres high. In 2000 he has been abroad again, this time in New Zeeland, on Mount Cook, at 3,425 metres.

After the leg on the other side of the world, Enzio has come back to Italy, and has made a pause until 2006. That has been indeed the year of his expedition to Himalaya, on Shisapagma, 8,027 metres. It is the first 8000 metre of his life, summitted together with his friends Silvio "Gnaro" Mondinelli, Marco Confortola and Cristian Gobbi in alpine style and without oxygen.

Between 2003 and 2006 he has taken part in the National Italian team of downhill skiing in fast disciplines. Michele Enzio is besides involved in voluntary activities and for the protection of environment.
